fmESignature Link (DocuSign Edition) Phone Authentication

fmESignature Link v1.5 includes support for sending requests with Identity Verification, including Phone Authentication and DocuSign ID Verification (N.B. Phone Authentication incurs a per use fee. See your account administrator for details).

With Phone Authentication, a recipient requests a one-time passcode (OTP) to be delivered to their phone number, either by SMS or phone call. The recipient receives the code and then enters that code on their screen. Once they successfully pass the authentication challenge, they can access and sign their documents as usual.

N.B. we have not been able to get Phone Authentication working when using with DocuSign Templates from the fmESignature Link file. It appears that a composite template will need to be used for this combination. We are currently exploring ways to support sending composite templates using the fmESignature Link file.

Setup

You first need to download the list of Identity Verifications from DocuSign for your account. Go to the  Setup screen and click the Download Identity Verifications button to download the list of Identity Verifications from DocuSign for your account:

This will generate a list of Identity Verifications records in the IdentityVerifications table like this:

Make sure you see a record with a Default Name of Phone Authentication. If you do not see a record with the Default Name of Phone Authentication please contact DocuSign support and have them enable it for you account - you can't send Requests with Phone Authentication without this record and the corresponding Workflow ID.

Contacts Setup

To send a Request with Phone Authentication to a Signer recipient you will need the following information for each Contact recipient:

Mobile: enter the mobile number of the recipient without any + characters or country codes etc

Country: select the Country for the recipient from the drop down list. We use this to match to the Countries table to get the correct Country Code for the recipient's country.

Templates Setup

We've added a new popover on the Template Details screen:

where you can enter the Phone Authentication settings for the Template:

You can enable/disable ID Verification for this Template and select the Phone Authentication Workflow ID.

Sending Requests

You can specify which Recipients for your Request require ID Verification. Click the Recipient Settings popover here:

which opens a popover where you can enable/disable ID Verification for the individual recipient:

When you send a request for a Template with Phone Authentication enabled and the Phone Authentication Workflow ID selected when the recipient clicks the Review Document button in the DocuSign email they will be prompted to first enter the access code before they can view the document:

If you choose Text Message you will receive an SMS to your mobile phone with the code:

If you choose Automated Phone Call you will receive an automated phone call to your mobile number that will read out the code. Once you have made your selection and obtained your code you can then enter on the DocuSign website:

The recipient must enter the code correctly in order to view and sign the document. You can get more information on Phone Authentication at the following links:
